Still indecisive whether to check us out at the career fair? Maybe the story of Marko Markež, an engineer from Zagreb, will help you make up your mind:

MARKO MARKEŽ is a Process Engineer Senior and Yield integrator in the Engineering Department at AT&S in Chongqing, China.
AT&S: How and when did your career at AT&S start?
Marko: I’ll never forget the winter of 2014 when I applied for AT&S International Talent Program (ITP), got invited to the assessment center at AT&S Headquarters in Austria and how I felt after the tests had finished. Back then, I was practically fresh out of technical college in my hometown Zagreb, Croatia, with only a year of work experience and I did not know if I stand a chance in the competition for the trainee-program. I said to myself “even if they don’t accept me as an ITP trainee, I will remember this experience my whole life”. That is how AT&S inspired me from day one. But the best part was yet to come – I got the traineeship at AT&S! The trainee-program in Austria provided me a completely different approach to problem solving in engineering. The value of the training I received, the technology I learned to work with and the support of my mentor were priceless. In October 2015, after the training-phase at AT&S Headquarters in Austria, I got a position as Process Engineer in AT&S’ plant in Chongqing, China. A year later I was promoted to Process Engineer Senior and Yield integrator.
AT&S: You have been living in Chongqing over a year now. In which way did this transfer impact your professional and personal life?
Marko: The most exciting thing about working and living in Chongqing is resolving the difficulties in the PCB production process and optimizing it. For me professionally, it is a great privilege to learn and contribute in developing the most sophisticated technology in the IC-Substrate field. For me as a person, moving from Austria to China was a life-changing experience: I got the chance to experience a totally new culture, mentality, language and many other things. I’m in a way honored to be able to meet and work with so many people from all over the world and to get to know the unique Asian culture. Everything about this experience motivates me to do my daily tasks in a more comprehensive and inclusive way.
AT&S: What makes AT&S an attractive employer in your opinion?
Marko: ATS offers its employees many ways to improve their individual and professional skills and to grow. In my opinion, it is the open-minded approach and the care for its employees that ranks AT&S very high on the scale of employer attractiveness compared to other companies. Here I get the opportunity to work with great engineers, business experts, visionary leaders and other professionals in the field – and that provides me a truly unique work experience.
AT&S What are your expectations and wishes for your professional future?
Marko: I like to refer to the PCB industry as one big puzzle. Every lesson learned, every finding made and every problem solved stands for one piece of puzzle that you get to add to the picture after your working day. I feel like I have just scratched the surface of the IC substrate subject and there are still a lot of things for me to learn and challenges to overcome. But I am “all in” and I am very excited to see where my career at AT&S will take me!
